Carmen Somm

2. Place overall - 1. Place U17 - 1. Place Girls! Switzerland with incredible performance at the CIMA 2019

After 12 races and 5 days of racing, the CIMA 2019 got again to an end last Sunday. As always, it was hard, tight and very suspenseful till the end. But this year the CIMA was also very successful for the Swiss Team.

2. Place - 1. Place U17          --> Maxim Dneprov / Luis Zimmerli
4. Place                               --> Achille Casco / Elliot Schick
7. Place - 1. Place Girls         --> Natascha Rast / Samira Rast
16. Place                             --> Simon Kaiser / Niklas Kaiser
21. Place                             --> Alexandre Grognuz / Siméo Vollmer
23. Place - 3. Place Girls       --> Sophie Mosegaard / Fiona Schärer
33. Place                             --> Nilo Schärer / Nik Burkhard

46. Place                             --> Janik Müller / Christian Steiner
50. Place                             --> Léon Fröhlich / Nathan Zwick
52. Place                             --> Ben Tresky / Yannick Kuster
53. Place                             --> Malin Karlsson / Myrlin Tappolet

Maxim Dneprov and Luis Zimmerli showed a very consistent performance over the whole regatta. In the very last race the moved up on the podium by finishing 4th. So they took the 2nd place overall and the 1st Place U17. Good job boys!
Before the last race, the Rast sisters were sitting in 3th position. By taking 33 points in the last race they fell back 4 places and finished 7th overall and 1st Girl Team. Achille Casco and Elliot Schick started not as they wished, but got more and more consistent during the week. At the end they missed the podium by 2 points. Also Simon Kaiser / Niklas Kaiser, Alexandre Grognuz / Siméo Vollmer and Sophie Mosegaard / Fiona Schärer sailed well. Last year not one Swiss Team was in Top 20, so 16th, 21st and 23st are also very good results! We shouldn't forget, that Sophie and Fiona also took the bronze medal in the girls ranking!
Nilo Schärer and Nik Burkhard had the plan, to fight for the top spots, but the had a very hard week. By only a few points they reached the Gold Fleet and also in the finals they couldn't perform. We hope that they will come back even stronger for the Championships this summer!
Janik Müller / Christian Steiner, Léon Fröhlich / Nathan Zwick, Ben Tresky / Yannick Kuster and Malin Karlsson / Myrlin Tappolet represented Switzerland in the Silver Fleet and made some very good races (e.g. 1. Place in race n° 8 by Malin / Myrlin)
It's nice to see, that the Swiss Fleet is getting stronger every year. Don't stop improving!

Help needed for logistics of 420 WM/JEM

Dear parents and coaches of the 420 sailors,

The 420 board is currently organizing the JEM and WM 2019. We'd like to forward you some informations about the logistics and the organization and are asking for your help.

JEM and WM will be coached by Nikos and Damir. Carmen will support the Swiss Team on land during the JEM. The accommodation for both events has been booked.

On Friday 5.4. the 420 board, Beisitzer and board-parents will have the next meeting where we will finalize among other topics, the travel and JEM/WM preparation dates and how we could solve the difficult logistics for JEM/WM this summer:

We need to tackle the following transport of 7-10 sailing boats, 2 motorboats, sailors and coaches to the following destinations:
1) From Switzerland to the training camp in Vilagarcia (arriving 13.6.)
2) the transfer from Vilagarcia to the WM in Vilamoura (between 18. and 28.6.)
3) the  transfer back from Vilamoura to Vilagarcia for the JEM (between 12. and 19.7.)
4) From Vilagarcia back home (31.7.-?)

To avoid that every family or region has to find their own way to and from the events, we are trying to find the smoothest and cheapest solution for all Swiss 420 concerning the preparation camp, the WM and the JEM.

Therefore we will need your help:

Nikos, Damir and I have looked at all the events and came up that we need the following vehicles and drivers to cater for the whole group:

  • 2 Motorboats
  • 2 trailers (each fitting one motorboat and two 420s)
  • 1 trailer fitting 3-4 420s)
  • buses where we can load a 420 on the roof and fit a lot of kids for local transport
  • 1 car
  • several drivers for the 4 legs
2 buses (with roof capacity) and trailers with mobos would be  needed for the whole time: ca.12.6. -ca.1.8.2019
1 car and trailer (with our idea to solve the logistics (including Nikos and Damir driving)  would only be needed to drive from Switzerland to Vilagarcia arriving 13.6. and right back (without the trailer)

We already got:
The SST youth team Casco/Schick who is entitled to use the SST motorboat and trailer would give it to the group for general use. Thank you.

-> Dear Parents and coaches: Please check in with your clubs and in in your neighborhood, and tell us if you have any of the above materials  that we could use (and please add if the use is free or which conditions apply for the 420 class to rent  the trailers, mobos and cars/busses)
-> Drivers: Nikos and Damir are willing to do some of the driving. But they are professional coaches and need to be paid for their time. If we find cheaper solutions, we all can save money. So again please locate if you know about any grandparents, parents, students, … who would be willing and able to drive one or more leg.

If possible let me or one of the members of the board meeting know by Friday 5.4., if your club or somebody privat can give or lend us some material.

I hope we can all work together to find the best solution for the kids and coaches and the cheapest for us. Thanks a lot.

We will continue to contact you about the exact travel dates, we are about to find cheap and convenient solutions for flights (so the kids will miss as little school as possible) and further information.

Kind regards,

Maja (mother to Malin 420 president)
